PURDY, Harold Christie
— Passed away January 17, 2010. Harold passed away quietly in his home, in the early evening of January 17. By his side was his loving wife of 58 years, Myrtle Purdy (Mullen). Predeceased by his father, Alexander Christie Purdy; mother, Maude Purdy (Colwell); brother, John Alexander Purdy, and sister, Evelyn Logan. Left with fond memories are his wife, Myrtle; son, Blair Christie Purdy, and daughter, Allison (Marc) Rubarth, along with grandchildren, Benjamin and Gavin Rubarth, Dana, Fiona, and Matthew Purdy. Harold was born in Halifax in 1923, and raised in Bedford. He received both his Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Degrees from TUNS. Following this, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Harold successfully carried on a career with Gulf Oil for 32 years, spanning time in Montreal and Toronto. When he retired in 1982, he was happy to return to Bedford and enjoy life overlooking the basin. Harold's greatest joys were his dogs (Fellow, Caleidgh, Finleigh) curling, skiing and boating. He was a "life" member of the RNSYS, where he sailed from as a youth and pampered his boat the Delfin for the last 30 years. Harold's life made a difference to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Life is not measured by its length, but by its depth. Harold has, with great generosity, donated his body to Dalhousie Department of Science. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Dalhousie Science.
Harold married Mary Myrtle Winona Alfretta Mullen, daughter of Peter Edward Walter Mullen and Mary Alfretta Sharpe.
