BUIE, Peter born in Nottawasaga, Simcoe married BROOKS, Emily M. born in Innisfil Township, Simcoe on 4 April 1893 at Square Bay. Parents of Groom: Angus Buie and Sarah Buie. Parents of Bride: George Brooks and Mary Jane Brooks. No date, newspaper article: "A very pleasant event took place in Square Bay on the South Shore of the Island, this week, two of the most popular young people of the neighborhood having been united in the sacred bonds of wedlock by the Rev. J.K. MacGillivary, the Presbyterian minister of Gore Bay. The contracting parties were Miss Emily M. Brooks and Mr. Peter Buie at the residence of Mr. Geo. Brooks, father of the bride and was witnessed by the immediate relatives of the young people, who spent a very pleasant afternoon together. THE GUIDE joins with their numerous friends in wishing the newly married couple the best joys of a happy home. We hears, by the way, that the preacher had a hard time getting there, owing to the state of the roads, but anxious hearts were set at rest when he drove up on time to the minute. At this point, however, another trouble loomed up, for Capt. Peters, who brooks no opposition to the monopoly he enjoys in Square Bay, at once challenged anyone who dared enter his territory on the "tie" business, but the Capt. had to "haul in his jib" and "tie up" while his clerical opponent completed a contract in "ties", in five minutes that was worth more than the Captain's whole winter's work." (Capt. Peters had a monopoly on the cutting
of railroad "ties".) According to the 1901 census (as of 31 March 1901)
Peter Buie was born 6 December 1865.
